A Brief History of Mah Jongg
Mah Jongg was first played by the Ruling Class of China and dates back to the time of Confucius. This ancient game was Americanized and introduced into this country in the early 1920s.
1923 marked the height of the Mah Jongg Craze in the United States.
Mah Jongg Sets numbered 6th in exports from Shanghai totaling in excess of
$1.5 million.
It is said that Mah Jongg rescued the ailing Milton Bradley Company from the brink of bankruptcy and had its factories working
24 hours a day to help meet the demand for new sets!
As we enter the new millennium,
Mah Jongg is beginning its second wave of popularity in the United States; and with a new generation discovering the joy of this intriguing game, it is securing its place in western history.

2012 Year of the Dragon
The Chinese Year of the Dragon begins January 23, 2012.
Astrology is part of Chinese life and the Year of the Dragon is particularly an important year.
In Chinese astrology the dragon is the only animal of the Chinese Zodiac Year that is not real - it is quite special and very much revered.
The dragon was seen as a powerful almighty king because it was made up of different parts of animals such as a tiger, fish, snake and an eagle.
The Chinese Dragon was not seen as a threatening evil being as we do in the west - rather a symbol of power, superiority and rule.
2012 is also the Purple Dragon Mah Jongg Club's tenth year, so the year of the Dragon is very symbolic for us.
Be sure to join us this Dragon Year for one of our Mah Jongg Tournaments !
